It's a new year and we have many new opportunities to make a difference. See below for how you can get involved.
Do you have an idea for a justice initiative? Our Temple Sinai Tzedek Committee has updated its method for selecting congregational initiatives that Temple Sinai adopts related to repairing the world. The new process relies upon member involvement. Any Sinai member can propose a Temple Sinai Justice Initiative by filling out and submitting an application that will include the scope of the proposal, the Jewish values aligned with the initiative and ideas for implementation. Submissions received by February 14 will be considered in the first round of reviews.
We have watched with an aching sense of helplessness the devastation of biblical proportions caused by the Greater Los Angeles fires. Professional colleagues in the Greater LA Jewish community with whom we have been in contact have informed us that at present, there are two ways we can be most helpful:
Purchase Gift Cards (Target, Visa, or Amazon, of any $ amount) and bring them to Sinai for distribution to Jewish community members. Drop off your gift cards to Temple Sinai by Friday, January 31 and clearly indicate the dollar amount on the card.
Sinai Family Shelter Host Week Sunday, February 2-Sunday, February 9 We provide temporary housing for families experiencing homelessness through Family Promise of North Fulton/DeKalb in our Sinai Family Shelter. Temple Sinai provides the facilities but we need your help with dinner, miscellaneous supplies, overnight hosting, Saturday day hosting, assisting the families with move in and move out, and laundry. Teens in grades 9-12 can volunteer to play with the kids and help with homework.
Friends of Refugees Baby Shower Thursday, March 6, 10:00 am-1:00 pm We are once again hosting a baby shower for Afghan women in Clarkston who are completing an 8-week prenatal course through the Friends of Refugees Embrace Program. Each mom-to-be will receive a gift bag with essential items for their newborns and we’ll celebrate with lunch, decorations, and game. It’s sure to be a fun and memorable afternoon!
Contact Janie Fishman to volunteer or purchase gifts for the shower from our Amazon Wishlist. Items must be sent to Carrie Bohn (at Temple Sinai) by Sunday, March 2.
