We need more volunteers for our Friends of Refugees Summer Camp and next Sinai Family Shelter Host Week July 23-30. We also have a variety of groups and committees for you to become involved at Sinai. See below for more details about those efforts as well as other upcoming opportunities to make a difference in our greater community!
Sinai Family Shelter
Sinai Family Shelter Host Week Sunday, July 23-Sunday, July 30 Come together and directly impact the lives of others through our Sinai Family Shelter! We are one of many interfaith organizations that support Family Promise of North Fulton/DeKalb and offer temporary room and board for families experiencing homelessness. Temple Sinai provides the facilities but we need your assistance providing dinner, miscellaneous supplies, overnight hosting, Saturday day hosting, helping the families move in and move out, and laundry.
We offer gratitude to Katherine Poch, Deb Poch, and Michael Drucker, three of our co-chairs who have completed their tenure, and we welcome Dana Startt and Mary Baron, who join Lisa Herman and Jake Herman, as our co-chairs for this programming year.
The Immigrant & Refugee Relief Committee is once again sponsoring a week of summer camp for refugee children, organized by Friends of Refugees (FOR). Volunteers are needed to assist the camp staff Monday, July 10-Thursday, July 13.
You must be at least high school age or as young as 12 years old, accompanied by a parent
The camp is located in Clarkston and we will carpool from Sinai
Hours are Mon/Wed 8:15 am-3:00 pm and Tues/Thurs 9:00 am-3:00 pm
Join us one or all four days. We are excited about this opportunity and know it will be a fun & memorable experience for our volunteers!
We are creating a new group at Sinai focused on LGBTQIA+ advocacy and programming. If you are interested in joining or learning more, please email Carrie Bohnfor more information.
Our Environmental Awareness and Action Conversations (EAAC) have been ongoing and led to some amazing changes to our campus! In May, we dedicated our Temple Sinai Teva Trail, the nature trail that enables us to transport ourselves from the hustle and bustle of Sandy Springs to an oasis right here on Dupree. As well, our Temple Sinai Board of Trustees voted to go solar, with solar panels set to be affixed to the roof over the next few months.
Did you know that Temple Sinai recycles and has started testing composting? Well, we have! We are recycling a minimum offive, 85 gallon containers plus large numbers of cardboardeach week and so far we have diverted over 400 lbs of waste through our composting program. You can read the full composting report here.
Social Action Sunday Committee
This upcoming school year we are looking to continue our Social Action Sunday program for families. If you and/ or your family would like to get involved with the planning process for this program please email Carrie Bohn. This program is a meaningful way to spend time with you family and do good in our community!
Temple Sinai is excited to debut our new committee supporting the Community Assistance Center (CAC) (for more information about their incredible work, click here)! Led by Co-Chairs Sheri Weiner and Andi Kaufman, the new CAC committee is dedicated to supporting Community Assistance Center initiatives including our High Holy Day Food Drive, Adopt a Family holiday program, and regular volunteering at the CAC Food Pantry and more. If you are interested in joining this committee please reach out to Carrie Bohn. We are looking to host a committee kickoff in the fall so stay tuned for more information about that soon!
