As we approach Passover, a holiday that honors the freedom and exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, it is important that we recognize our responsibility to others to respond with empathy and concern towards the rights of strangers, the homeless and the impoverished. See below for how you make a difference in our community.
Social Action/Social Justice Survey
Temple Sinai is exploring how Sinai’s approach to social action and/or social justice specifically affects your sense of belonging and we’d love to get your input! Share your thoughts in a brief survey.
Sinai Family Shelter Host Week Sunday, April 2-Sunday, April 9 (Passover) This host week will fall the same week that Jews all over the world recognize and celebrate Passover. As the children are central to Passover in asking the 4 questions, Family Promise’s mission is all about impacting the lives of millions of children.
Consider giving back and volunteering for Sinai Family Shelter. There are many volunteer opportunities including providing a meal, hosting overnight or during the day, helping with move-in or move-out, laundry, grocery shopping and more.
Fulfill the Purim mitzvah of Mattanot Le-evyonim (gifts for the needy) and the Passover mitzvah of opening the door to all who are hungry, and help provide food for people who need it.
Temple Sinai is partnering with JF&CS to participate in their Purim to Passover Spring Food Drive! Temple Sinai is accepting shelf stable pantry items until April 11 through the bins in our lobby. Visit the link for a list of their most needed items.
We're excited for our next Social Action Sunday on April 16! Whether you and your family have 5 minutes or 30, we would LOVE your help. Meet us anytime between 12:15 pm and 2:00 pm. Please register so we order enough pizza for our volunteers! If your child is attending Noar that day, you can meet us right after.
The Community Assistance Center (CAC) is a volunteer driven and charitable organization in Sandy Springs. Temple Sinai has been a proud partner of this organization since its inception in 1987. Operating under the mission to “provide basic needs assistance for neighbors to prevent homelessness and hunger while promoting self-sufficiency and empowering them to thrive”, the CAC unites member congregations throughout the community to join together in volunteerism.
Due to increased need, Temple Sinai has committed to further our volunteer support at the CAC. Our efforts include onsite volunteerism the 3rd Saturday of each month, organizing drives for priority items in need, as well as Adopt-a-Family opportunities during the holidays. Share a few hours of your time along with your Sinai family to help our neighbors in need. Time slots and dates are listed on the SignUp Genius here.
Did you know? Temple Sinai is an official "Community Buddy" of Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta!
What's that mean? We help feed food-insecure children. After getting the food from Backpack Buddies, we then pack it for each child, and deliver the packs to nearby schools where there are children who do not have enough to eat on the weekends.
Can you help? Absolutely! It is a great way to do some good in the community and spend time with fellow congregants. Please sign up to volunteer! If you have any questions, contact Co-ChairsAlice Byrne and Susan Pepper.
