Rabbi Ron Segal joined the Temple Sinai clergy upon his ordination from rabbinical school in July 1996, serving first as Assistant and then Associate Rabbi; he was named the congregation’s third Senior Rabbi in July 2006. During his 28+ years in Atlanta, Rabbi Segal has served on the boards of numerous Jewish, communal and interfaith organizations, both locally and nationally. He recently concluded a decade of service on the board of the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR), including two years as President (2019-2021). Along with continued national involvement, Rabbi Segal presently serves on the board of the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody Community Assistance Center (CAC) and is an active participant in the Sandy Springs Interfaith Clergy Association. An alum of Leadership Atlanta, Rabbi Segal strives to foster communities of compassion, understanding, and belonging, and relishes opportunities to teach and speak in interfaith, school, and civic settings throughout the greater Atlanta area on topics of Jewish life, values, theology, Israel and more. He and his wife Jill have two adult sons, Adam and Ben.

    Senior Rabbi

Brad Levenberg grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was regularly sent to the office of the Sunday School Principal for incessantly talking during class. Embracing that “talent” and realizing that all that was missing was a larger audience and a microphone, Brad decided to pursue the congregational rabbinate at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion following his undergraduate education at Antioch College.

He embraced opportunities while in seminary to work as a student rabbi in New Jersey, Virginia, and Ohio, and in chaplaincy settings in New York, but credits his role as a Youth Advisor, working with sarcastic and unruly teens, as the experience that best prepared him for congregational work. An innovator who embraces the mandate to “create positive Jewish memories”, Rabbi Levenberg came to Temple Sinai in Sandy Springs following his ordination in 2006. He utilized his conversational style of teaching and overly-verbose sermons to win the hearts of the congregation and was promoted from Assistant Rabbi to Associate Rabbi in 2009 and, in 2022, was elected as a Senior Rabbi of Temple Sinai.

Rabbi Levenberg has served on many boards throughout his career in Atlanta. Because his opinions are not welcomed by his family at home, he serves at present locally as the President of the Atlanta Rabbinical Association and on the boards of the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee (Brad actually sits on the Executive Committee), and he serves the Reform movement by sitting on the Ethics Committee of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. He is also the immediate past co-chair of the Atlanta AJC’s Black-Jewish Coalition. In May 2021, he completed his doctorate from Antioch University in Leadership and Change. Rabbi Dr. Levenberg (as he is known by his very proud mother) published a dissertation titled Applying the present to the past: The experiences of five civil rights rabbis in context of contemporary leadership theory in which he explores the leadership legacy of five social justice rabbis. He enjoys sharing his findings as Scholar in Residence, in various sermons, at dinner parties and cocktail receptions, and with his friends and family. Truth be told, Rabbi Dr. Levenberg does not need an audience to be entertained by his own whimsy.

Rabbi Dr. Levenberg is married to Rebecca Levenberg, a defender of the arts through her work at the Woodruff Art’s Center as the Director of Foundations and Grants, and is the parent of Ilana, a student at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) majoring in Film and minoring in Jewish Studies, and Evan, a middle school student who is struggling with determining whether he will become a YouTube star or a professional NBA player. Rabbi Dr. Levenberg’s family contributes greatly to his sense of optimism and appreciation of joy as well as to an increasing collection of gray hair.

Beth Schafer has served as the Bunzl Family Cantorial Chair at Temple Sinai since July 1, 2015, bringing more than two decades of experience as a spiritual leader, composer, producer, and worship innovator in Reform Jewish life.

A longtime fixture in the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), Beth has led worship and played guitar at biennial conventions since 1999. In 2013, she became the first woman to produce a major URJ musical event, Extraordinary Women Shaping Reform Judaism, and composed the centennial anthem Limdu Heiteiv. Many of her compositions are published by Transcontinental Music Publications and are sung in congregations nationwide.

As a recording artist, Beth has released eight albums of original Jewish music, including Raise It Up, Bring It Down (2009), Renewed (2018) and Oz Rucheinu Po (2025). Her body of work blends liturgical insight with contemporary activism, offering Jewish music that is both spiritually resonant and socially relevant.

At Temple Sinai, Beth is known for creating worship experiences that are emotionally powerful, beautifully produced, and deeply engaging. Whether leading solo or with a full ensemble, she infuses services with richness, warmth, and a sense of universality, helping the community encounter prayer, text, and song as transformative pathways. Beth also facilitates support groups for those in need of extra care at their most challenging times.

Beth is deeply engaged in Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ community and often shares her voice and music in interfaith settings, where she celebrates diversity and uplifts the shared humanity that unites us all.

Beth’s greatest joy is her family: her wife, Rebecca; their children, Hannah (Matthew), Sarah, and Ben; and their beloved dog, Chester.

Rabbi Samantha (Sam) Trief (pronounced Tree-f) is honored to serve the Temple Sinai community, where her rabbinic journey began immediately following her ordination from the New York campus of Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion.

With a deep commitment to spiritual care, Rabbi Sam has completed two units of Clinical Pastoral Education—one at Maine Medical Center and another at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her passion for Israel is reflected in her ongoing service on the Board of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) Southeast Region, as well as her role as a current Amplify Israel Fellow. She is an alumna of LEAD, Leadership Atlanta’s program for rising professionals, and serves as chair of Jewish Abilities Atlanta, working to promote inclusion and accessibility across the Jewish community.

Rabbi Sam is married to Rabbi Natan Trief, and together they are the proud parents of Rafael (Rafi) and Maayan (Maya). Their beloved Labradoodle, Huckleberry, rounds out the family with his joyful presence.

A passionate participant in Atlanta’s vibrant Jewish life, Rabbi Sam is inspired by the relationships she is nurturing at Temple Sinai and is excited to continue growing with this dynamic congregation. Sam enjoys working out, playing mahjong with friends, and exploring every sushi spot the city has to offer.
