Early in the book of Exodus (3:2) we read that Moses, while shepherding a flock in the wilderness, beholds a bush which, although aflame, remains unconsumed by the fire. After Moses turns aside to get a closer look at the miraculous site, God is revealed to him from the burning bush. God calls out to Moses by name, and Moses responds “Hineni – Here I am.” As the synagogue is a sacred space which invites the exploration of faith, recognition of the holy, and the deepening of one’s relationship with God, the spiritual symbolism inherent in this burning bush sculpture makes it a particularly fitting greeting for all who enter.

Reflection from Ina Enoch:

Temple Sinai has been a spiritual home for the Enochs and Pinskys for decades. Family members have served in various leadership roles over the years, and the incredible clergy have been a part of sacred moments and life cycles at every stage of life. We have had the pleasure of watching Temple Sinai grow from a small congregation to one of the largest and most preeminent synagogues in Atlanta. The key to our congregation’s success is the warm and welcoming environment provided by both the clergy and its congregants. During the year of Temple Sinai’s 50th anniversary we wanted to find a way to honor the temple and give back in a meaningful way. With the help of the clergy, we, along with sculptor Michael Dillon, created this striking image of the burning bush. It sits prominently at the synagogue entrance to welcome everyone into our beautiful and inviting building where all of the wonderful things this community offers are waiting to be experienced.
