At Temple Sinai, we believe that no child should have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Through our partnership with Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta, we work to combat food insecurity by providing children with nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for the weekends, when school meals are unavailable. This initiative reflects our deep commitment to tikkun olam and ensures that children in our community have the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
As an official Community Buddy, Temple Sinai volunteers receive food from Backpack Buddies and assemble weekend meal packs filled with essential, kid-friendly items. Once packed, these meals are discreetly delivered to local schools, where they are distributed to children identified by school counselors and social workers. By offering both sustenance and dignity, we help ensure that students return to school on Monday nourished and ready to learn.
Providing for those in need is a fundamental Jewish value, and our congregation plays a vital role in making this effort possible. Whether by volunteering to pack or deliver meals or donating to sustain the program, every act of support strengthens our impact. Together, we are feeding children, uplifting families, and living out our values in the most meaningful way—by showing up for those who need us most.
