7:00 PM - 8:30 PMHoly InnocentsJoin us for a fascinating interfaith encounter led by Rabbi Ron Segal and the Rev. Dr. Bill Murray of Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church as they teach this 4-part spring series. Together, they will pull the veil off the mystery of what happens as our time on this Earth ends according to our two sacred traditions.
Session 1 (Temple Sinai): Customs, Lore, and Rituals as the end of life nears (last rites, Viddui (i.e. final confession), relevant textual passages)
Session 2 (HIEC): Traditions & Religious Practices at the time of death (Funeral practices and symbolism, mourning customs, tahara, superstitions)
Session 3 (Temple Sinai): What comes next? (Perspectives regarding the soul, heaven/hell, world to come, how we remember)
Session 4 (HIEC): Perspectives and Approaches to contemporary issues concerning the end of life (euthanasia/physician-assisted suicide, biomedical ethics, state of end-of-life care in America, etc)
Classes will rotate between Temple Sinai and Holy Innocents'. Although attendance at all four sessions is encouraged, it is not required. Please feel free to register even if you cannot make all of the meetings.
