While Dr. Ken Stein taught at Emory from 1977 to 2024, he was integral to the building of the Carter Center and worked closely with Carter in the 1980s and 90s on Middle Eastern matters. He spent hundreds of hours of conversations with Carter and dozens of diplomats who were at the center of the negotiating process that resulted in the Egyptian-Israeli Treaty. Ken now heads the Center for Israel Education which has contributed significantly to our community's understanding of Zionism and Israel in the Middle East today. He is considered one of the world's leading experts on the origins and development of modern Israel and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
