Join us for these critical discussions about Israel in an interfaith setting with Rev. Dr. Nathan Brown of Sandy Springs Christian Church and Rabbi Natan Trief from Temple Sinai. This is a three-part series taking place on 3 consecutive Sundays in April where we will educate each other about Israel, her history, and the current conflict. In so doing, we hope to dispel some of the widespread misinformation and disinformation, and help to enrich interfaith understanding. This event is limited to 60 people from each congregation so please register asap. Appetizers and drinks will be served at the first two sessions, and a full dinner will be served at the final session.
Session 1 (April 14, 4:00 pm-5:30 pm) at Sandy Springs Christian Church
The goal is to develop a relationship with someone from a different faith as a way of allowing for greater understanding and fellowship. Rabbi Natan and Rev. Dr. Nathan Brown will help to frame the discussion after which we will pair off to discuss our impressions of Israel. We’ll chat around several prompts such as “Have you been to Israel?” and “What are your impressions of Israel?” In between the prompts, Reverend Brown and Rabbi Natan Trief will offer different frames of understanding and shared stories.
Session 2 (April 21, 4:00 pm-5:30 pm) at Sandy Springs Christian Church
Rabbi Natan Trief will present a survey of modern Israel and some of the poignant issues with special emphasis on the questions of “How have we gotten to the current situation?” and “What is Israel’s place in the world?” Followed by the presentation, we will have time for some one-on-one conversation, as well as a Q&A session from the audience.
Session 3 (April 28, 4:00 pm-6:00 pm) at Temple Sinai
This final session will be a conversation between Rabbi Natan Trief and Rev. Dr. Nathan Brown as they attempt to provide framing around Israel and lay the groundwork for continued interfaith dialogue. We will be recording this session and will release it as an episode of Sinai’s Seeking Sinai podcast. After this conversation, dinner will be served and further conversation is encouraged at individual tables.
With gratitude to the Richman Spiritual Relationship Endowment Fund for the generous sponsorship of this event.
