While the Dead Sea is one of Israel’s most popular attractions, our great country is home to many other spectacular natural wonders. Take for instance a makhtesh. A makhtesh can only be found two places in the world: the Negev desert of Israel and the Sinai peninsula of Egypt. A makhtesh has high walls of rock surrounding a deep closed valley. The rocks are many different colors and shapes. The largest maktesh is Makhtesh Ramon. Recently opened at this maktesh is the Beresheet Hotel, an exclusive hotel right in the middle of the crater.
