Gesher Program

Grade 7

New this year, our 7th grade students will gather six times throughout the year to engage in community service experiences. Starting at 12:30 pm on Sunday afternoons with a pizza lunch and learning at Sinai, we will board a bus and head to a location in the metro-Atlanta area to make a difference in our community through hands on social action work.

Grade 8

New this year, our 8th grade students will gather six times on Wednesday evening throughout the year for a Dinner Club with Rabbi Brad. Meeting at dining establishments throughout Sandy Springs, our students will eat, do some learning, and enjoy lots of shmoozing. Dinner will start at 6:00 pm and the evening will conclude by 8:00 pm. The 8th grade dinner club will adventure on a class trip to Cincinnati, Ohio (the birthplace of Reform Judaism) with Rabbi Brad in late January.

Jr. SCRUFY: Grades 7 and 8

Jr. SCRUFY is Temple Sinai’s youth group for 7th and 8th graders. Through monthly events we will create an engaging community with fun and relevant programming, where everyone has a place and feels welcome. Members of this group can also participate in NFTY678 regional event.

Pre-Confirmation: Grade 9

Sundays, 11:00 am-12:15 pm

Join your fellow high school freshmen peers for this in depth program as you explore what it means to actually THINK Jewish as opposed to DO Jewish. Strengthen old and new relationships in a safe setting, build upon your connection to Temple Sinai with Rabbi Sam, and continue to form your Jewish identity. New this year, our 9th grade Pre-Confirmation class will explore how art can be a form of activism during an incredible journey through Memphis, TN in early December! *9th Graders who choose to serve as Madrichim will leave their Madrichim assignments early in order to attend the Pre-Confirmation program.

Confirmation: Grade 10

Confirmation provides an ideal setting for students to explore their Judaism together with Rabbi Ron. Confirmation is a great setting for sophomore students to explore the relevance and importance of enduring topics related to Jewish identity such as God, Torah, Israel and more. The Confirmation year includes both an opening retreat in Atlanta as well as a much anticipated class trip to New York in the Spring, and culminates with a special Confirmation service in May. *10th Graders who choose to serve as Madrichim will begin their Madrichim assignments late in order to attend the Confirmation program.

SCRUFY: Grades 9-12

SCRUFY is Temple Sinai’s youth group for high school students. SCRUFY activities are planned and run by an elected teen SCRUFY board and appointed committee members. Made up of fun monthly social events and teen lounge nights, SCRUFY encourages strong friendships, strengthens Jewish identity and creates memories for a lifetime. Additionally, SCRUFY holds a Spaghetti Dinner and silent auction each year as a fundraiser for Camp Jenny, a 4-day camp held over Memorial Day weekend for inner-city Atlanta children.

EAT: Grades 11 & 12

Join your rabbis for some EAT (Eat and Talk) conversations about a current events topic during the year ahead. These sessions provide a great, easy and engaging way to connect with friends from Confirmation, enjoy a meaningful and relevant discussion and have a good time. Four to five EAT sessions will be scheduled throughout the year on Sunday evenings.

Teen Leadership

We are so excited to offer these teen leadership opportunities at Temple Sinai. Earn community service hours, build a community of friends, work with your peers, gain leadership skills, and be a part of the Temple Sinai teen community!

Madrichim: Grades 8-12

Do you love to work with children? Do you want to be a role model for younger Jewish kids? Do you like to work with your friends? The Madrichim Program will enhance not only your Jewish knowledge and identity, but will also give you a chance to enhance the Religious School experience for Pre-K students through 6th graders! By becoming a Madrich(a), you will serve as a Teen Counselor in our Religious and/or Hebrew School.

Teen Interns: Grades 11-12

We are very excited to invite interested teens to apply for our third cohort of Temple Sinai Teen Interns. Teens who are selected will be provided with a unique leadership experience that will help them develop skills in a specific area of interest, guided with one-on-one support by a mentor from the Sinai staff. This is an incredible opportunity for personal growth and college applications! Teen Interns will be expected to commit at least 5 hours a month, August through May, and will receive community service hours.

Teens entering grades 7 and 8 for the 2017-2018 school year are encouraged to apply to be a member on the JR. SCRUFY Advisory Board! The Advisory Board will meet once a month to plan programs, brainstorm ideas, and more!

Temple Sinai will have 4 Teen Action Days throughout the school year. Teens entering grades 8-12 for the 2017-2018 school year who are passionate about community service can apply to be a part of this incredible committee. You will work with your peers and Rabbi Sam Shabman to plan and run these awesome teen-only hands-on community service Action Days!
