Upcoming Melton-Inspired ClassOffered by the Lisa F. Brill Institute for Jewish Learning and Temple Sinai For Temple Sinai Members Only
|October 20, 2015 - March 22, 2016||A History of the Jews of the Pre-modern Islamic World|
Held Tuesdays, 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Temple Sinai.
This course, inspired by previously offered Melton Courses, will focus on the history of the Jews of the pre-modern Islamic world between the 7th and 19th centuries. For most of this period, the demographic center of world Jewry lay in the urban centers of the Muslim world including Baghdad, Cordoba, Cairo, and Fez. Our class will investigate the social, cultural, and political history or these Jewish communities and analyze the interaction between Jews and Muslims from the time of Muhammad until the arrival of Napoleon in Egypt in the early 19th century.
Instructor: Dr. Craig Perry
Fee: $60 (materials cost; registration fee is subsidized by Temple Sinai)
